MSA was established in 2014 to give women, especially from Muslim and diverse backgrounds, an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports. Since then, we have engaged with over 1000 women and girls across several different sports such as fencing, football, badminton, Go-Tri and Rowing. Not only has MSA given women and girls an opportunity to participate in sports we have also upskilled them to become coaches and gain employment. Over 90 women have gained their level one coaching or activators badges in football, fencing, tennis, badminton, and archery.

MSA provide sports and physical activity in an exclusive female only environment – with qualified female coaches and instructors in Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham, forging partnerships and alliances with clubs and organisations with similar ethos and aims as us.

Through MSA, women have transformed their lives. Some have learned how to cycle and now do charity rides, others accomplished the Couchto5k challenge and have now participated in fun runs. Others compete in Badminton and Football 5 a side leagues …all because opportunities were provided through MSA.

We are so proud of our volunteers too. These are women who began just by participating with us, but because they gained so much they wanted to give back. We have not only transformed the lives of our community by improving their physical health but also improved the mental health. MSA is more than a club – we have created a sisterhood where the sports have become secondary and there is an emphasis on having fun and social interaction. Participants encourage one another to join and keep attending, they forge friendships that extends beyond the sports hall. Isolated women have somewhere they belong, and the sports offers that escapism that we all need once in a while.

MSA have organically grown into more than a sports organisation, offering nutrition for the mind, body and soul through not only the sports offered, but also through its ‘Positive Minds’ sessions and spiritual book clubs.
